2007 Missouri Breaks Storytellers' Rendezvous
The 2007 "Missouri Breaks Storytellers' Rendezvous" was held this summer at the Fergus County Fairgrounds. Paul Zarzyski, Montana's supreme cowboy poet, again moderated the event. The weather cooperated with a cool summer evening. Following the storytelling, participants were treated to lively contemporary music provided by the “Premonitions Live”, fine drink, and a great barbeque, catered by the Bar 19.
Lewistown resident and admirer of good poetry, Karl Gies, introduced Paul Zarzyski, with references to his early training under Montana’s great Richard Hugo. This year’s Storytellers included: Tim Faber, Allen Morris Jones, Glenn Braun, Jack Lepley, Connie Jacobs, Patrick Chapin and Stephenie Ambrose Tubbs. The audience was entertained with a diverse repertoire of stories.
Story topics covered such subjects as open range, weather experiences on the Missouri, The Bear Paw encounter, reptiles and amphibians of the area (with actual sounds!), unusual and lesser known characters in the Breaks, and the hard life of the area.
Stephenie Ambrose Tubbs gave a very fitting wrap-up with her essay, “Why We Still Need Lewis and Clark.”
The evening was inspirational and uplifting for everyone involved. For more information about the Rendezvous, contact Mary Jones at (406) 538-8506 or wildmissouri@teiin.net.
